San Bruno Councilman Wants More Focus On Pipeline Victims

SAN BRUNO (KCBS) -- A San Bruno city councilman says he has a concern about the intense focus on the investigation into last year's deadly gas line explosion, and he's worried not enough attention is being paid to the victims of the fire.

Councilman Ken Iberra said he's not surprised that National Transportation Safety Board investigators found cracks in the welds of the pipe at the center of the explosion.

KCBS' Chris Filippi Reports:

Iberra said he and other city leaders got a look at the pipe shortly after the disaster in September, and he's glad for all the scrutiny on the pipe, but But he thinks there needs to be more attention on the victims.

"It's been four months and there are people that are still displaced and there are people that are struggling to deal with their situation," he said.

San Bruno officials have outlined a plan to distribute nearly $400,000 in donations to fire victims.

The pipe line explosion killed eight people and destroyed more than three dozen homes.
