San Jose Daycare Worker Arrested For Child Molestation

SAN JOSE (KCBS/AP) - A counselor at a San Jose after-school child care program has been charged with molesting five girls under his care.

Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Steve Fein said the girls, all under age 10, claimed that 25-year-old Keith Woodhouse touched them inappropriately in a classroom at Trace Elementary School.

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

"I can't get into the details of what he actually did, but I can tell you that he was arrested for committing lewd acts with children during the after school program, which is a day care center," said San Jose Police Officer Jose Garcia.

Woodhouse did not enter a plea during his arraignment last Friday. He is being represented by the public defender's office, which did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Garcia said they are concerned that there may be more victims because Woodhouse worked at several facilities around San Jose and Los Angeles, dating all the way back to 1999. Woodhouse, of San Jose, is being held without bail.

"His experience consisted of various positions including camp counselor, a children's ministry internship, Sunday school counseling, and leading day care and afterschool activities as well," said Garcia.

San Jose Unified School District Spokeswoman Karen Fuqua said that parents were notified by the Child Development Center.

"The CDC did act promptly and quickly to alert their parents, and we've been working closely with the SJPD to create a press release so we can notify the rest of the parents," said Fuqua. "If parents have any further concerns, we ask that they please contact the San Jose Police Department."
