Hayward Man Surrenders In Fatal Teen Stabbing

HAYWARD (BCN) - An Oakland man suspected of fatally stabbing an 18-year-old man in Hayward Thursday night showed up at the Hayward Police Department on his own free will, police said.

Police received several reports around 7:40 p.m. of a possible stabbing at 952 Folsom Ave., where police and emergency responders found the unidentified teen with stab wounds.

Life-saving measures were performed on the victim before he was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he succumbed to his injuries at 8:41 p.m., police said.

The 27-year-old suspect had left the scene of the stabbing by the time police arrived, but later came to police headquarters to turn himself in, police said.

Investigators are questioning the suspect, witnesses, relatives, and neighbors, but have not determined a motive for the homicide.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the Police Department's criminal investigators at (510) 293-7034. Anonymous tipsters can leave messages for Inspector Robert Coffey at (510) 293-7083 or Detective John Racette at (510) 293-7031.

The stabbing was Hayward's second homicide this year.
