Authorities Find Burned Body In SUV Near Altamont Pass

LIVERMORE (CBS/AP) — Alameda County sheriff’s investigators are trying to identify a dead person whose body was found in a burning sports utility vehicle in a sparsely population area east of the Altamont Pass.

Sheriff’s spokesman J.D. Nelson told The Oakland Tribune on Saturday that the badly burned body was discovered inside the GMC Suburban in between the communities of Altamont and Mountain House on Friday night after deputies, CHP officers and firefighters from the nearby town of Tracy responded to a report of a vehicle fire. The SUV was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Nelson says the department dispatched homicide detectives and crime lab technicians to the scene because the death is being treated as suspicious until foul play can be ruled out.

That show you the type of people the CHP deal with 24/7.

Actually, come to think of it, I do see vehicles on fire alongside the freeway on my way to work every morning, also during lunch hour and when I head out for dinner. The worst time, of course, is during the evening which is when the vehicles really blaze brightly. I feel sorry for the CHP, who are forced to deal with this problem “24/7”. Especially on those occasions when entire families or cargo vans full on “immigrants” are blazing towards the skies like roman candles.
