ConsumerWatch: Young Gamer Left With Broken Controller, Shattered TV

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -  The Nintendo Wii may be popular, but one family is not too fond of the Icon 8-in-1 Sports Kit Pro controller used by some to play the games.

When Carol Raisner's kids were playing, one of the bat controllers came apart, causing the TV it hit to shatter.

While the babysitter confirmed that the controller had in fact hit the TV, Raisner were skeptical.

"When we put it together and then swung it again, it came apart," said Raisner. "We knew that it was definitely not the kids fault."

Raisner and her husband recorded a YouTube video demonstrating the malfunction and sent it off to customer service. But even with the video, the manufacturer's attorneys blamed the broken TV on the kids.

"I was furious and I was hurt," said Raisner. "I felt as if they were calling me a liar. I immediately left message for the attorney asking if he had tested the bat."

Raisner then contacted ConsumerWatch and, in an email, Icon said they respectfully disagree that the video posted accurately represents the circumstances. They also said they've produced over 100,000 units and this was the first customer complaint.

Icon did offer Raisner $500 toward a new TV.

"At this point I just want it to be over with, so I agreed to the $500," she said.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has not received any other complaints about this product. But starting next month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is launching a website that will allow consumers to post and search for products complaints.
