Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Backpack In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- A police bomb squad, investigating a suspicious backpack found in an upscale San Francisco neighborhood Saturday, found no evidence of a bomb inside.
Neighbors in the vicinity of the 100 block of Arguello were told to go to the backs of their houses or to voluntarily evacuate while the bomb squad attempted to detonate the package shortly before noon.
CBS 5's Anne Makovec, at the scene, reported that the first attempt failed.
The bomb squad then X-rayed the backpack and found personal items inside but no explosive device, according to SFPD information officer Albie Esperaza.
The police responded after being alerted by a caller.
