La Verne Lutheran Beats Oakland's Bishop O'Dowd, Wins Div. III Championship

SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- Grant Jerrett and Cameron Osorno each scored 16 points as La Verne Lutheran came from seven points down in the fourth quarter to beat Bishop O'Dowd of Oakland, 64-59, to win the boys' Division III state championship Friday at Power Balance Pavilion.

Carl Cooper had 11 points for the Trojans (27-5), who were five-of-five on three-pointers in the fourth quarter to overcome a 49-42 deficit with 6:31 left. The big shots came from Kevin Payne, who made two three-pointers in the last 1:37, the first to give La Verne Lutheran the lead, and the second to seal the win. They were his only baskets of the game.

Brandon Ashley topped O'Dowd (25-7) with 26 points. The state title was the second in a row for La Verne Lutheran, with the first coming in Division V.
