San Francisco Elementary School Kids Tee Off

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) ---  A golf program designed to introduce elementary school students to the game picked up 300 new participants Monday as San Francisco elementary school students got their first taste of the game at Harding Park Golf Course.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

The First Tee Program, a nationwide effort designed to help inner city kids learn about golf, expanded to San Francisco.  The kids participating learn about more than how to swing a club, said Kay Cockerill, a former professional golfer who is on the board of First Tee San Francisco.

"Learning rules, setting goals, honesty, integrity, perseverance - all those positive aspects that golf teaches," she said.

PG&E contributed $50,000 to First Tee San Francisco.
