Castro Valley Church Volunteer Arrested On Molestation Charge

PLEASANTON (CBS SF) - A 35-year-old Livermore man was arrested last week on suspicion of molesting a 16-year-old girl whose family attends the Castro Valley church where he was a youth group volunteer, officials said Tuesday.

Livermore resident Carloe Estigo was charged Monday with two felonies - committing a lewd act on a child and sexual penetration by a foreign object—for two incidents that allegedly occurred on Oct. 1, 2009, Alameda County district attorney's spokeswoman Teresa Drenick said.

The girl and her mother contacted the Pleasanton Police Department on Friday when the mother learned what had happened, police Sgt. Jim Knox said.

Pleasanton police took Estigo into custody that day, but delayed releasing information about the arrest because of the sensitivity of the case, Knox said.

Police are still investigating whether other youth might have been victimized, he said.

Knox declined to release the name of the church where Estigo volunteered.

Estigo was being held in Santa Rita Jail and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday at 2 p.m., Drenick said.
