Pittsburg To Host First Ever Bike Race This Weekend

PITTSBURG (KCBS) – Pittsburg is hoping that this weekend's bike race will come close in popularity to the East Bay city's annual seafood festival in September. The Pittsburg Twilight Criterium professional cycling race is on May 7th and will feature six professional races.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

"If this event is successful we would love to bring it back next year," said Ally Endress, Pittsburg's Director of Housing and Community Development. "This is going to be our first shot at it, so we hope the public comes out and cheers the cyclists on en masse because that would help make this a fantastic event."

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets on Saturday. There will be several races in different categories between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. A beer and wine pavilion will be available, with all proceeds going to local charities.
