Daily Madden: Lakers End Ugly; Pacquiao Over Mosley

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - KCBS morning anchor Stan Bunger called it "painful to watch." The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Dallas Mavericks by 34 points Sunday and were swept out of the NBA playoffs as two Lakers were ejected from the game in the fourth quarter.

"They were just cheap shots," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "People sometimes confuse playing physical with dirtier cheap shots, and that's what the Lakers were doing, just out of frustration. (It was) kind of classless."

Madden also was not impressed with Shane Mosley in his title fight Saturday against Manny Pacquiao. "He got hit in the third and got knocked down... Then to get through that round what he did was kind of run and hold... but then he fought the rest of the fight that way."

John also was asked about the new "Alternative Golf Association," which promotes relaxing golf rules to encourage golf "for the rest of us." Among the association's recommendations is allowing mulligans (playing some shots over without penalty.) Madden said he doesn't agree with that one. "If you really can't do it, a mulligan is not going to help you... All you're going to do is take that lousy swing you have and groove it." (8:30)
