Oakley 2-Alarm Fire Torches Home; Neighbors Evacuated

OAKLEY (CBS SF) - A fire that broke out in an Oakley home late Sunday night caused an estimated $250,000 in damage, but no injuries were reported, East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Chief Hugh Henderson said Monday.

The fire was reported at 11:09 p.m. at a two-story, single-family house in the 400 block of Bayview Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find the home's second floor ablaze, with flames threatening houses on either side, Henderson said.

Firefighters called for a second alarm response, and a total of 36 firefighters worked to put out the fire.

Heat from the blaze caused the windows of one neighboring house to crack, but otherwise the damage was confined to the house where it started, Henderson said.

The fire was under control by about 12:30 a.m.

Fire investigators were still at the scene Monday morning trying to determine a cause, Hendersonsaid.

The residents were not home when the fire started. Residents of neighboring homes were evacuated while the blaze was burning, but have since been let back into their houses.
