2 Suspects Killed In Oakland Police Shooting
OAKLAND (CBS SF / AP) - Oakland police officers shot and killed two suspects during a law enforcement operation late Wednesday night, according to a police spokeswoman.
Oakland police received information about 10:30 p.m. that a violent crime—most likely gang-related—was going to occur in the 3000 block of Curran Avenue, police spokeswoman Holly Joshi said.
Responding officers found the suspects' vehicle with three males inside and tried to make an investigative stop, she said.
Two of the occupants emerged with firearms, Joshi said. One ran to a nearby yard, while the other confronted the officers and was shot.
One suspect died at the scene. The second was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Police set up a perimeter and called in a department helicopter crew, who found the hiding suspect using the chopper's infrared device.
His firearm was found nearby, Joshi said.
The suspect was taken into custody and is currently on a parole hold.
The Oakland Police Department's homicide unit and internal affairs division are investigating the case, as well as the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
The names of the two suspects who were killed have not been released.
