SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A taxi driver in San Francisco was arrested after allegedly striking a pedestrian and then fleeing early Monday morning, a police spokesman said.

The pedestrian, a 28-year-old man, was walking in a crosswalk with a green light at the intersection of Sutter and Polk streets when he was hit by the cab at about 1:50 a.m., police said.

He suffered life-threatening head injuries and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The taxi driver, a man in his 30s whose name is not yet being released, struck the pedestrian while making a turn from westbound Sutter Street to southbound Polk Street, Esparza said.

He was later located near Market and Gough streets and taken into custody, police said.

9 out of 10 cab drivers in San Francisco are complete jerks who care little for public safety. I had to deliver something recently to City Hall and happened to run into a cab driver protest that was circling City Hall. As I crossed from Civic Center Plaza to the front door of City Hall (in that giant cross-walk that every car must stop at) a cab driver almost hit me because he was focused solely on honking and waiving to his compatriots on the steps by the front door instead of looking where he was driving. His only reaction once he noticed me was to honk more and yell for me to get out of the way. Disgusting, vile creatures they are…

I honestly hate the cab drivers in SF. They are rude and careless. I saw one drive in the muni lane just to cut off another taxi driver and one drove in the opposite direction lane to cut off 10 cars. Do they even have a legal drivers license? All they care about is stealing customer away from other cab drivers and making profit and not he safety of their passengers.

I don’t condone bad driving but by law, taxis are allowed full use of muni lanes.

What do you expect in a “sanctuary” city that doesn’t enforce any laws on the books when it comes to traffic violations? SFPD sure does know how to stand around collecting thousands of hours of overtime and spike pensions, though. Between “progressives” who want to turn a blind eye to everything and the corrupt, incompetent police force, things will not improve soon.

There are aggressive Taxi drivers out there and I just passed by on that block. Glad he is in custody not hurting other people. I hope the pedestrian will stay alive and get well soon.
