San Carlos Woman Injured In Bike Race Dies

FRESNO (CBS / AP) -- A San Carlos woman severely injured in a crash during a Central California bicycle race over the weekend has died.

Mary Lisa Russell, a spokeswoman for Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, confirmed 29-year-old Crystel Stanford's death Tuesday afternoon.

Stanford's family had said she was on life support but was brain-dead following Saturday's crash at the 100-mile Fresno Classic Century.

Authorities believe Stanford was riding downhill when she applied the brakes, skidded and was thrown to the ground.

Her family said they planned to donate her organs.

A separate crash during the race left another rider, 49-year-old Jim Cameron of Clovis, in serious condition when he hit a road sign after getting a flat tire.
