Auto Test: Suzuki's Revisions

(KCBS) - For those who want something different from their neighbors, a safe bet would be a Suzuki. This long-established Japanese company has had a difficult time getting a mass audience in the U.S., originally because it wasn't competitive and now because the buying public hasn't discovered its quality and low prices.

Built in Sagara, Japan with both engine and transmission Japanese-made, the Suzuki Sport SLS is a medium-size sedan with a long list of comfort features as standard. Ride, handling and performance with a 2.4 liter "4" are competitive, while the interior has generous room with the back seat exceeding most of its rivals. Mileage: about 30 on the road - price fully equipped is at $25,300.

Suzuki also has revised its heavy duty SUV, the Grand Vitara V6 4WD. Its fuel mileage is only fair - low 20s on the road. But this is a substantial vehicle with a 3.2 liter V6 and 5 speed automatic. This was a rather rough machine in the past, but now is smooth and pleasant to drive. Price $27,500.
