Auto Test: Kia Optima Hybrid, Optima Turbo
(KCBS) - A press preview has given us a sampling of these new cars which we'll report on fully after our usual week-long tests.
Suffice to say, both models are impressive. The hybrid is smooth and quiet--not quite as zippy as the Ford Fusion Hybrid, but mileage is exceptional--36 around town and 40 on the highway. Most hybrids do better in the city.
The Optima Turbo-4 is one of the liveliest mid-size sedans we've driven with this size engine - quick off the line with acceleration continuing to cruising speed.
Both cars are nicely equipped with a comfortable ride.
The hybrid loses some trunk space to the battery-pack, but it's still adequate except for members of my family who require a years supply of clothing for a two-day visit.
More on the new Kias, soon.
