San Francisco Legends Give Giants Fans A Thrill

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – San Francisco Giants fans got a special treat this weekend as the team's annual "Legends' Game" brought out many heroes of the past.

Although the game lasted only an inning, it took on extra meaning this year as Giants luminaries like Willie McCovey and Mike McCormick gathered with more recent players like Bill Mueller and J.T. Snow to celebrate last season's World Series victory.

1975 Rookie of the Year John "The Count" Montefusco was in a uniform at the age of 61.

"Sitting around getting dressed with the guys that you used to play with every single day, it brings back a lot of great memories," said Montefusco.

KCBS' Mark Seelig Reports:

Longtime fan favorite Will Clark, wearing his traditional eye black, signed plenty of autographs for fans.

"It's a credit to Bill Neukom and the whole Giants organization that they're really proud of their alumni and the history of the Giants," said Clark. "They're bringing guys back and I know these guys really think a lot of the organization the way that they treat them."

Former Giants pitcher and current broadcaster Mike Krukow said what makes the event even more special is the fact that it's held at AT&T Park, a museum showcasing the history of the franchise.

"At some point in time (these players) will take a walk and find a picture of themselves on the wall or a memory of what they did for this franchise and it will be a nice, quiet tear that gets passed," said Krukow.

Saturday's game proved to be memorable for both fans and players alike.
