WASHINGTON (CBS/AP) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said embattled New York Rep. Anthony Weiner, who has been under pressure to resign, will make an announcement Thursday amid reports that he is set to resign.
The San Francisco Democrat would not say what Weiner planned to announce, although CBS News reports that he plans to step down in the wake of a scandal surrounding sexually provocative texts that he sent to a number of women. Weiner has acknowledged the misstep, but also has up to now resisted pressure to leave Congress.
Pelosi told reporters at her weekly news conference she knew they would have questions about Weiner, but said she has said all she will say publicly at this time about his situation and noted that he will make an announcement later Thursday.
