Tech Watch: Anticipating Facebook's Announcement

(KCBS) - Facebook has scheduled what it's calling an awesome announcement at its Palo Alto headquarters Wednesday morning.

CNET Editor-at-Large Brian Cooley said the first thing most of the oddmakers would agree on is that it's time for Facebook to have an iPad app which they don't have right now. But what do you put in there to make the app special? That's less known.

They could announce a "live video calling application like integrated Skype," Cooley speculates. "Or photo sharing built in to Facebook, or additional streaming."

Cooley said they could also just announce a much more strong mobile website that would free them from having to publish an app according to Apple's rules.

Whatever the announcement is, Cooley said, "This is definitely going to be a strong mobile announcement that will broaden what Facebook means."

You can hear his Tech Watch report Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:50 P.M. on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
