MARTINEZ (CBS SF) – Police have identified a man who is in critical condition after showing signs of cardiac arrest while being taken into custody by Martinez police Wednesday.
Police responded to the Martinez Marina at around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday on a report that a man had locked himself in a city worker’s vehicle and another that someone was chasing a train on the Union Pacific railroad tracks near the marina.
Police said responding officers found 28-year-old Roberto Aparicio, of Antioch, inside the city vehicle.
Aparicio allegedly resisted arrest and an officer used a Taser to subdue him, police said.
Police said Aparicio continued to resist arrest and ran away. He was detained after a brief chase, according to police.
The suspect showed signs of cardiac arrest while in custody and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Aparicio was still in critical condition as of Thursday night, police said.
An investigation revealed that Aparicio had also been seen at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center earlier Wednesday. He reportedly left the hospital and went to the marina where he allegedly attacked a city worker before officers arrived, police said.
