Daily Madden: No Bonus For No-Show All-Stars

(KCBS) - A growing number of healthy players selected for Major League Baseball's All-Star team are deciding not to attend, and they're being criticized for it. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew he has the answer to the problem. "I know what the solution is. You put a bonus in there if they make and play in the All-Star game." Many players have bonuses for just being selected to the team, but John said that's not enough. "If a guy makes the All-Star team and decides he doesn't want to go, and then still gets the bonus, that's a sucker play."

New York Yankee All-Star Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit this weekend was a homerun, and the fan who caught it returned it to Jeter without asking for anything in return. "I thought that was one of the greatest things about what happened," Madden said. "The guy that gets that ball, that's going to be worth a lot of money. He just gives it back to him, which I thought was great. The people that have a hard time understanding how you can do that, I think that's probably one of the problems we have right now." (7:30)
