SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – New York Yankees slugger Robinson Cano defeated Red Sox slugger Adrian Gonzalez in the All-Star Home Run Derby Monday night. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew he was as impressed with Cano’s father Jose, who was throwing the pitches to his son. “To come out and pitch like that… he was putting them, especially to his son, in the perfect spot.”

John said he was also impressed with the American women’s World Cup soccer team, which defeated Brazil in a thrilling game Sunday. “I was impressed by how much they leave their feet… Some of the still pictures you see, how high up in air they get… Those girls are really athletes.” (9:20)
