San Leandro Cop Charged With Drug Offense Resigns

SAN LEANDRO (CBS/AP) - A San Leandro police narcotics detective charged with giving marijuana to an informant has resigned from the force.

Harry Stern, the attorney for 38-year-old Jason Fredriksson, said his client's resignation was effective Friday.

Stern told said the move had nothing to do with the marijuana charge, which he called completely unsubstantiated. He said his client wanted to take responsibility for having an inappropriate relationship with the informant.

Fredriksson was apparently having an affair with the woman.

Investigators said he provided more than a pound of marijuana to the woman, who has not been identified, for her to sell.

He has pleaded not guilty to transporting and furnishing marijuana for sale, a felony, and is free on bail.
