Elderly Woman Dies Of Injuries In Oakland House Fire

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - An elderly woman injured in a two-alarm house fire in Oakland on Thursday night succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in San Francisco Friday morning, fire and hospital officials said.

The fire was reported around 9 p.m. Thursday at a three-story home in the 8900 block of Burr Street, Oakland fire Battalion Chief Eleanor Bolin-Chew said.

A woman was rescued from the home by firefighters and taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, and was later taken to the burn unit at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco.

The victim, 88-year-old Mabel Bulford, succumbed to her injuries at 8:06 a.m., St. Francis spokeswoman Linda Gillespie said.

The fire, which was under control as of 9:29 p.m., is thought to have been accidental in nature, Bolin-Chew said.

A final report on the cause of the blaze was expected to be ready by early next week, she said.
