Caught On Video: Employees Turn Gun On Fairfield Fast Food Robber

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) - An attempted robbery at the Fairfield Wingstop fast food eatery probably didn't play out the way the criminal had intended.

Surveillance video shows a masked man carrying a shotgun shove an employee inside the restaurant, what happens next is out of the ordinary. The employee appears to try and grab the barrel of the gun.

After overcoming the attempted disarming, the would-be robber takes off. Instead of letting the incident go, the Wingstop employee can be seen chasing the man down and wrestling him to the ground just outside the store. A second restaurant employee jumps in to help, and they pry the loaded gun away from the suspect.

Rather than calling police, the original employee then begins lecturing the thief. Later he simply shakes the criminal's hand and allows him to leave, without the shotgun.

Fairfield police describe he suspect is a black man with short black curly hair, approximately 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches and 150 pounds.

He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black
gloves and was carrying a red backpack with gray trim, Lt. Greg
Hurlbut said.

Hurlbut said police do not advocate struggling with armed suspects
unless it is absolutely to save lives.

"Being a good witness for police by noting significant details of the crime and the suspect are much more valuable than becoming the victim of a tragic shooting," Hurlbut said.

"The employee of Wingstop was fortunate in not being injured and we thank the employees for their description of the suspect, which was
provided in a timely manner," Hurlbut said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Fairfield police at (707) 428-7300 or the Solano County Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-STOP.
