Fatal Crash Closes Southbound Hwy 101 At Menlo Park

MENLO PARK (CBS SF) -- The California Highway Patrol reopened all lanes of southbound U.S. Highway 101 Sunday morning after a fatal hit-and-run crash blocked the highway for nearly three hours.

Officers responded to reports of a crash at about 5:40 a.m. near
the Marsh Road, CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

Preliminary reports indicate that a red Honda Civic was traveling south and when it was rear ended by a 1960s or 1970s pickup truck, Montiel said.

The Honda stopped in a center lane and was struck a second time by a taxicab, Montiel said.

The Honda sustained severe damage and the driver was killed, Montiel said.

The pickup truck fled the scene.

The roadway was blocked until 9:a.m. while emergency responders cleared the crash.
