Auto Test: Ford Explorer LTD 4WD

(KCBS) – One of the more popular SUVs has a new engine which gives it better fuel economy without losing the pep for which its noted.

A 3.5 V6 now is the Explorers standard engine and when coupled to a six speed automatic gives a flexible and quiet ride plus highway mileage in the mid to upper 20s. I found it especially nice when climbing our bay area hills.

Inside, our test Explorer had 3 rows of twin seats and a modest amount of cargo room without the back row folded down. The LTD carries a long list of upscale accessories which should be important in the snowy mountains such as remote start and 110 power inverter.
