Oakland Evangelist Predicts New End Of World: Today

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – An Oakland evangelist who famously—and incorrectly—predicted the end of the world on May 21 has said the “final end of everything” will probably happen Friday.

Harold Camping, founder of the nonprofit Christian radio network Family Radio Worldwide, has posted several lengthy statements on his website, http://www.familyradio.com, explaining why the original date of May 21 was incorrect and predicting that October 21 would most likely be “the final end of everything.”

May 21 was the beginning of God’s final judgment, and the day when he stopped saving sinners in preparation for the end of days, Camping wrote.

Oct. 21 is the end of a period of final judgment, and “at this point it looks like it will be the final end of everything,” Camping said in an undated recorded statement.

Camping has assured his followers that he believes there will be no pain for unbelievers or dramatic apocalypse.

“I really believe that there’s going to be no big display of any kind, the end is going to come very, very quietly, probably in the next month, probably by Oct. 21,” Camping said in the recorded statement.

Camping gained national publicity for his prediction after his organization placed billboards around the Bay Area and across the country warning that God would destroy the world on May 21.

Critics at the time, however, noted that Camping had also made such a prediction in 1994.

Camping suffered a stroke in June, but his recorded message indicated that he was at home with his wife and making progress.

A person who answered the phone at Family Radio Network said there would be no media interviews or statements released regarding Camping’s prediction.

When will Harold Camping die? It would be the end of the world for him if he would just shut up and go away permanently already!

    • Billy Joe Bob

Maybe his final meal will be Kool Aid.

  • Daniel Burns

Why does the news even listen to him? He had a stroke did he blink out this message?

    • Disbeliever

Granted he’s a nut, but many people can speak after a stroke.

CBS 5, leave this guy alone! He can no longer be believed. Once a so-called “prophet” gives out a date, and if he fails, he can no longer be believed. Pray for him instead, that God will finally open his mind and humble him down completely.

We no longer have to worry about the rapture. God, if there is one, does not want these crazy Christians in heaven either

  • Michelle L

After two total failures, it is fairly obvious to the (sane) casual observer that Family Radio is a non-prophet organization.

  • yah

Seems like he can predict earthquakes though

    • michelle l

True that – 7’s on both dates.

  • B. Wilson

At this point I think there’s only one response –

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!

  • proud_bay_man

Why does this man get air time at ALL!

  • Dan

Hopefully God decides to postpone it a few days until after the World Series.

The FBI and DEA fabricate evidence, steal from suspects and use murder to close those bad cases.
There is evidence that employees from DoD, CIA and DOJ accepted bribes from Al Quida.
How is it that 12 of the 9/11 terrorists could live for 2 weeks just 2 miles from NSA head quarters in Maryland. This after several of them had taken flight simulator lessons on Jumbo jet trainers and several of them where on State department terror watch lists.
There is evidence that employees from DoD, CIA and DOJ accepted bribes from Al Quida.
If DoJ and DoD employees where more concerned with doing their jobs than enriching themselves by stealing from suspects and taking bribes, then there might have been more a chance that 9/11 had never happened.

Camping has neither integrity, nor understanding of the Bible. I’ve spoken with athiests and Muslims who quote Matthew 24:36…”But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” (KJV)

    • proud_bay_man

Yeah, if you believe in all of that nonsense. I’ll never understand how people can believe in and follow a book that is a majority of myth and legend from other cultures a group of white men tried to, and continues to, erase historical records and replace them with a fresh face and new names. You would think that with an internet connection, and a couple brain cells, they would educate their ignorance, and look beyond the fabricated & scary wall their leaders won’t allow them to look beyond.

I guess it is easier than believing in yourself.

Yet another lie to make the sheep believe the master contained within their, ‘book,’ about a so-called divine man claimed superior to humans.
There is nothing original about this piece of recycled and fictionalized plagiarism. The books’ content overflows of retold celebrations: myth and legend: history and tale, all plundered from past civilizations richly chronicled, all the while the white men running the show continuously attempt to eradicate. Google any christian holiday.
What is sad is there is information out there to cure this ignorance, but most need someone/thing to think for them. People continue to never question, then accept and retain the lies and injustices due to the white men running the show telling them to make it so. Then they drive the nail in by exclaiming they themselves are the voice of this fictional deity.

Don’t look behind that wall, that curtain goes nowhere, that person truly existed, there were witnesses, if there is an excuse and not a reason, now that is something they did create.

I think he was trying to say the end of his world will end today…

  • Vickie

He is a pathetic old man and has been predicting the end of the world since the early 80s as far as I can remember. You would think he would just give up and stop , but I seriously think he is off his rocker and wont stop till he kicks off, which I hope is soon. But I dont feel sorry for the followers that quit thier jobs and and sold thier homes and sat around all day waiting for the end. AGAIN…They should have had more sense. Bet they feel like idiots.

Not since Satan has anyone had an ego as massive as Harold Camping’s.
