Daily Madden: A Promising Weekend For Raiders And Niners

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Carson Palmer will have his first start as the Raiders quarterback when Oakland faces the Denver Broncos Sunday. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew Palmer couldn't have asked for a better first-game opponent.

"Denver is really not that good in any area," John said. "(Denver QB Tim) Tebow is just not ready to play... Just watching the Broncos, their offense, Tim Tebow -- the answer to him is blitz him a lot. I think the Raiders will do that, and I can't see Denver really having an answer for it."

The 49ers are a three and a half point favorite to beat the Washington Redskins Sunday.

"I don't know why (the point spread) is not more. (The 49ers) are playing well, they're doing things that you have to do to be solid. They run the ball well, and they're playing good defense... To be honest (the Redskins) don't have a quarterback, and then some of the other things are lacking too."

John is a huge boxing fan, but he said he won't be watching Saturday's "celebrity" bout between former major league baseball players Jose Canseco and Lenny Dykstra. "I don't call that a fight," Madden said. "That's a freak show." (8:00)
