San Jose Microsoft Store Opening Draws Crowd, Jonas Brother

SAN JOSE (KCBS)— Hundreds turned out Thursday for free concert tickets at the grand opening of the first Northern California Microsoft company store at San Jose's Valley Fair Mall.

Though the excitement was palpable before the store's opening, where Microsoft appears to be taking a page from Apple's playbook, most people waiting in line weren't thinking about PC's.

"We're really excited about Joe Jonas. We're here for Joe Jonas," repeated one determined young lady in line.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

Pop musician Joe Jonas plans on holding a concert later in conjunction with the grand opening of the store.

"We'll have a Windows phone area and an X-Box entertainment area which is really exciting and interactive," said Michael Ortiz, the store manager.

He also said it was pure coincidence their store front is right across from an Apple Store.

"I wouldn't even say it's competition. I think really what it comes down to is that we offer customers different choices," said Ortiz.

Mica Yamamoto, with Microsoft marketing, said this 13th retail location is only the beginning.

Microsoft hopes to open 75 retail stores over the next two years.
