Firefighters Find Pot Plants In Burning San Jose Home

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Firefighters are battling a blaze at what is believed to be a marijuana grow house in San Jose on Tuesday afternoon, a fire captain said.

The one-alarm fire was reported at a single-story house in the 3000 block of Tunis Avenue at 3:17 p.m., fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez said.

First responders reported thick smoke coming from the garage, which is attached to the house. Emergency crews also found marijuana plants that were being cultivated at the home, Gutierrez said.

The San Jose Police Department is responding to the scene.

Fire crews were continuing to battle the blaze as of 3:30 p.m. and no injuries had been reported.

Gutierrez said PG&E was en route to the scene to shut off power because the electricity meter was bypassed and emergency crews have been unable to secure it.

"A hazard we cannot control at this time is the live electrical," Gutierrez said.
