Stanford Accepts First Batch Of Students For Early Admission
STANFORD (CBS SF) -- Stanford University has accepted its first batch of students for the Class of 2016, admission officials said Friday.
The Office of Undergraduate Admission sent acceptance letters to 755 students seeking admission to the university through the early action admission program.
The students were selected from 5,880 applications—nearly a 13 percent acceptance rate for the first group vying for a spot. Last year, 5,929 students applied through the early decision program—a university record.
Admission decisions were emailed Friday afternoon to all applicants, whether admitted, denied or deferred to the regular decision pool.
Students who were accepted to the school through the early action program may consider all their college options before making a decision by May 1, university officials said.
"We continue to attract an exceptional number of highly competitive candidates and we are honored by the interest they have shown in Stanford," the school's dean of admission and financial aid Richard H. Shaw said in a statement Friday.
More than 28,000 students are expected to apply for regular admission by Jan. 1.
