Police Move In On New Occupy Oakland Encampment

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Police were clearing tents from a new Occupy Oakland encampment at a vacant lot in West Oakland Wednesday evening and appeared to be detaining protesters and issuing citations, according to a live video stream.

The camp on the 2000 block of Peralta Street was discovered by police on Wednesday morning, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

Earlier Wednesday, Watson said that what action police took would depend on the response of the property owner.

KCBS' Chris Filippi Reports:

A small number of tents had been erected on the fenced-in lot as of Wednesday morning, but previous Occupy Oakland camps grew rapidly, and it was estimated that as many as 200 tents were pitched in Frank Ogawa Plaza before police dismantled that encampment in November.
