Man Found Stabbed To Death Near Richmond BART Station

RICHMOND (CBS SF) - An apartment complex maintenance worker was found fatally stabbed near the Richmond Bay Area Rapid Transit station during peak commute hours Wednesday evening, marking the city's first homicide this year.

Richmond resident Jimmy Lai, 57, was found around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, lying on the ground in the 1600 block of Macdonald Avenue with multiple stab wounds, police Lt. Bisa French said.

Lai was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

French said there are no suspects and no known motive for the murder, and that officers who searched the area Wednesday were unable to find any witnesses.

She said Lai was a maintenance worker at the Monterey Pines apartment complex at 680 South 37th St., about a mile and a half from the BART station.

Police are offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the capture of the person responsible for the killing, and are asking those with information to contact the Police Department at (510) 621-1276 or the anonymous tip line at (510) 232-TIPS (8477).
