1 Killed, 1 Hospitalized After Crash Involving Fleeing Newark Burglary Suspects

NEWARK (CBS SF) -A car of burglary suspects fled from police in Newark Wednesday, driving recklessly through city streets before colliding with another car, killing the driver, police said.

Police were called to a report of a home burglary on Mistflower Avenue shortly before 10 a.m.

A witness who reported the robbery told police he saw three suspects enter a neighbor’s home after kicking down the front door. He provided police with a detailed description of the suspects and the vehicle they were driving.

When police arrived, they saw the suspects’ car, a Chevrolet Malibu, leaving the area and attempted to stop the car, but the suspects fled, police said.

The car fled south on Cedar Boulevard, and police estimated they were driving almost 80 mph. Officers stopped their pursuit due to the suspect’s unsafe driving, police said.

The driver continued speeding away and collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Cherry Street and Mowry Avenue. The driver of the other car suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One of the three suspects was trapped inside the vehicle, while the other two fled on foot. Police arrested one suspect right after the crash, while the other was arrested at the Pick N’ Pull junkyard about a mile away on Mowry Avenue.

The three suspects were transported to local trauma centers to be treated for injuries suffered in the collision. Police said that all three have extensive criminal histories.

The three suspects arrested by police are Rajwaun Watkins, Jabrie Watts and Deshon Collier, all 20-years-old.

If they have extensive criminal histories then why are they running around freely? Can we stop believing that these folks will change? Another innocent life is claimed by criminals. RIP!

Exactly. These are the kind that Section 8 attract. Their relatives move to Newark and bring along their entire family once they have left the jungle. It is sad to see what our suburbs have turned into. I think Oakland and Richmond should do a better job in retaining their “law abiding citizens” in their cities. The newly appointed oops, elected Newark Mayor has to do a better job when it comes to criminal activity and allowing section 8 housing in the nicer neighborhoods. It is sickening.

    • More crack please

They are not going to change as long as they are listening to their RAT music and living in their common ground. They are from the prison early release program. Those are their better ones. Stay tune…

They are part of the protected class.

Fleeing a burglary and killing someone in the process. Sounds like a good use of the death penalty for those three.

  • Yeap! It's them again

MLK have a dream…If only he knew

I hope the lock them up and throw away the key! An innocent husband, father, brother, and uncle lost his life! RIP!
