Son Faces Murder Charge After Oakland Mother's Death
OAKLAND (CBS/AP) -- A man accused of severely beating his 68-year-old mother in her Oakland home now faces a murder charge after his mom died of injuries related to the November attack.
Prosecutors amended the complaint Tuesday against 38-year-old Shinichi Daniel Tessien to include a count of murder. He also faces a charge of charge of cruelty to an elder with likely great bodily injury or death.
After the Nov. 7 assault, Nobuko Goswami was taken to an Oakland hospital with major head and internal injuries and never regained consciousness.
Officials said she died of blunt force trauma in a Marin hospital Sunday.
The suspect has been in custody since November and was scheduled to enter a plea Friday.
Authorities said Tessien has a history of mental problems.
