SWAT Officers Surround Newark Home

NEWARK (CBS SF) - Police surrounded a home in Newark Thursday Afternoon, looking for several suspects wanted for a crime committed in Fremont.

Fremont police Sgt. Jeff Campbell said that the suspects are believed to be inside the home in the 36000 block of Cedar Boulevard.

He declined to disclose the nature of the crime until arrests have been made.

Fremont and Newark police closed off Cedar Street between Lafayette and McDonald avenues at 11:38 a.m., and SWAT teams surrounded the house, he said.

At least two people had exited the home and been detained by police for questioning, Campbell said. More suspects were still believed to be inside the house.

He said he is unsure when Cedar Boulevard will be reopened.
