San Jose Man Arrested After Kidnapping Ex-Girlfriend, Stabbing Samaritan

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A San Jose man was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and attacked a man trying to rescue her with a knife, police said.

Vincent Esparza Padilla, 38, allegedly assaulted his 34-year-old ex-girlfriend in the 5800 block of McGilvra Court and forced her into her own car about 7 a.m., police said.

Padilla drove to Milpitas, where the victim was able to escape by jumping out of the moving vehicle near Yosemite Drive and Dempsey Road, police said.

She called a friend, a 46-year-old San Jose man, who came to the area and picked her up, police said.

Padilla tracked the pair down and allegedly assaulted the man with a knife, police said.

Police said he then tried to ram the pair's car as they tried to escape.

Police were dispatched to the confrontation and Padilla fled before officers arrived.

He was arrested without incident a short time later at Cardoza Park, police said.

The victims were not seriously injured.

Padilla was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for kidnapping, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence battery.
