Suisun City Man Shot In Newspaper Delivery Vehicle Dies

SUISUN CITY (CBS SF) -- A 40-year-old Suisun man who was shot late Wednesday night succumbed to his injuries Thursday, Suisun City police said.

Police believe Gadiel Nunez, the shooting victim, was a passenger in a vehicle that was delivering newspapers in the 800 block of Cackling Drive.

It's believed shots were fired into the delivery vehicle from 819 Cackling Drive where several people were congregating at the time of the shooting, police said in a news release.

Nunez showed up with a gunshot wound around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at a city fire station at 621 Pintail Drive and was taken to a trauma center, police said.

He succumbed to his injuries at 4:21 p.m. this afternoon.

Police questioned 27-year-old Daniel Jimenez Diaz at his residence in the 1300 block of Hammond Drive in Suisun City. He was released pending follow-up investigation and forensic evidence testing, police said.

Investigators have found no connection between the victim and the people in front of the Cackling Drive residence, police said.

There were reports of a possible drive-by shooting in the immediate area just before shots were fired into the newspaper delivery vehicle, police said.

Detectives have not ruled out the possibility the shooting suspect believed a second drive-by shooting was about to occur, police said.
