Suspected DUI Driver In Series Of Hit & Runs Wrecks On SF Embarcadero

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A suspected DUI driver was injured in a rollover crash on San Francisco's Embarcadero which followed a series of hit-and-run incidents in Russian Hill Wednesday morning.

The suspect, in his 30s, was first spotted hitting cars with his SUV in the area of Polk and Broadway around 5 a.m., according to San Francisco Police Sergeant Darryl Fong.

"Reportedly, the suspect vehicle had struck several vehicles," said Fong. "There were no reported injuries in those incidents. The driver was located with the described vehicle in a single-occupant traffic collision at Embarcadero and Green."

One of the calls into dispatch came from a hit and run victim who was giving directions on which way the SUV was going, said Fong.

KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:

The driver sped up on southbound Embarcadero, losing control and flipping over at Green Street, according to Fong. The crash sheared off and flattened the center median traffic light.

The SUV ended up blocking the Muni F line tracks for about a half hour.

The driver taken to San Francisco General with non-life threatening injuries, and booked on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, said Fong.
