SAN JOSE (CBS RADIO) - Most music fans would find it hard to argue that Coldplay is the biggest band in the world. This is a huge accomplishment for a band that's only been playing together for 16 years. Their popularity is now be on par with rock 'n roll greats like of U2, Rolling Stones and Kiss. Boasting sales of more than 50 million records, the foursome has taken home enough awards to fill a U-Haul.

The band is set to launch into their first North American tour in nearly three years with two performances scheduled at HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Despite front man Chris Martin turning against the name of his own album, Mylo Xyloto, the record has been widely praised as their best work to date. "Paradise," the album's most acclaimed single, has just surpassed 100 million views on YouTube. The band's uplifting lyrics and neon graffiti images appear to have played in the band's favor, providing fans a momentary escape from world's failing economies and general feelings of despair. Listening to Mylo Xyloto is like taking a "happy pill."
