CONCORD (CBS 5) – A two-year-old girl was hospitalized after she was bitten by a pit bull Monday afternoon, authorities said.

According to a statement by the Concord Police Department, the girl was bitten around 5:00 p.m. along the 4300 block of Rose Lane. The child was treated at the scene by medical personnel before being airlifted to Children's Hospital in Oakland for further treatment.

Officials said the girl is in stable condition.

Authorities decided to euthanize the pit bull Tuesday morning so that Contra Costa Animal Services could test it for rabies.
