RICHMOND (CBS SF) — One man was killed and another victim was injured in separate shootings in Richmond late Friday night, a police lieutenant said.
Police found the fatal shooting victim at around 11:30 p.m. near the corner of 37th Street and Nevin Avenue, Lt. Shawn Pickett said.
Police received a ShotSpotter activation alerting them to gunshots in that area, and while officers were responding they received information that a man was down there.
Officers located the victim near the corner suffering from gunshot injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, Pickett said.
Interviews with witnesses suggested there was some kind of argument in the street that turned into a physical fight, until at least one suspect pulled a gun and shot the victim.
Witnesses also told police that three suspects fled on foot toward 36th Street, Pickett said.
Police locked down the surrounding neighborhood, searching yards in an effort to find the three suspects, but were unsuccessful.
Investigators were interviewing witnesses early this morning to determine more details about what happened.
The victim has been identified, but his name has not been released as police were still in the process of informing his family this morning, Pickett said.
Earlier in the night, another victim was shot near the border of Richmond and San Pablo.
Richmond police received a ShotSpotter activation at 10:39 p.m. in the 2300 block of Lancaster Drive, Pickett said.
At around the same time, San Pablo police were contacted by a victim that had been shot nearby.
Investigators believe that the ShotSpotter activation was alerting police to the shooting that injured that victim because of the proximity. The gunshot victim was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, Pickett said.
No information about possible suspects in the shooting was
