SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) — Police were searching for the suspect and victim involved in a shooting in the parking lot of 24 Hour Fitness in San Leandro Sunday evening.

Police responded to a shooting in progress at 15555 East 14th St. at 6:18 p.m. but the victim and suspect had already fled the scene.

Witnesses near the 24 Hour Fitness told police that the suspect shot at the victim multiple times with a semi-automatic handgun, before running towards the Bayfair Bay Area Rapid Transit station, situated less than a block from the 24 Hour Fitness.

Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect, described by witnesses to be a black male in his 20s, wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.

The victim also fled the scene and police do not know if he sustained injuries. Witnesses described the victim as a black male wearing a light colored shirt, police said.

Police checked for the victim at nearby hospitals, but met with negative results.

San Leandro police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Det. Sgt. Henderson at (510) 577-3272 or the police department’s anonymous tip line at (510) 577-3278.
