2-Year-Old Dead, 3 Hurt In San Bruno House Fire
SAN BRUNO (CBS SF) – A two-year-old child has been killed and at least three others, including a firefighter, at a two-alarm house fire in San Bruno Friday morning, a deputy fire chief said.
The two-alarm fire in the 100 block of Lake Drive was reported at 8:45 a.m. and extinguished just before 9 a.m., according to San Mateo County fire dispatchers.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was killed in the fire and a woman in her 50s or 60s was found unconscious in the home. She was revived and taken to a hospital where she was in critical condition Friday afternoon, Deputy Chief Dave Downing said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but authorities believe the fire may have started in some sort of shrine that had been set up in a hallway closet, Downing said. The flames blocked the woman and the child from exiting the house, he said.
A 69-year-old man was also hospitalized after suffering burns in the fire, and a firefighter cut his left hand, requiring 10 stitches, according to Downing.
A neighbor, who gave her name only as Meg, said the residents of the house are a couple in their 60s and that the child is their grandchild. She said the couple were longtime residents of the Lake Drive cul-de-sac.
Downing said construction crews who were working on a nearby house
also helped a resident get out of the home by putting a ladder up to a bedroom window, which the resident used to climb down to safety.
