World's Largest Recycling Operation Under Way In Milpitas

MILPITAS (KCBS) - What's being billed as the largest recycling operation in the world has just opened in Milpitas.

The Newby Island Recycling Complex is processing an estimated 110 tons of multiple waste streams per hour. The plant can also process 84 million cans and 19,000 tons of plastics per year.

Cardboard processed at this facility is currently being shipped overseas to the Pacific Rim, and a sizable amount of plastics and mixed paper are being re-purposed domestically.
