Tech Report: Hewlett Packard's Envy x2—Half Tablet, Half Laptop

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The ShowStoppers Digital Holidays event in New York is currently previewing some of the tech items that will be released between now and the holidays.

Hewlett Packard's Windows 8 machine, the Envy x2, was one of the items that caught my eye. The price hasn't been revealed yet, but it's basically a convertible laptop. It looks like an Ultrabook, which weighs 3 lbs. You can pop off the screen and suddenly have a tablet.

The dock, which contains a keyboard that makes it look like a laptop, also extends the battery life. So there are two batteries, one in the tablet and one in the dock.

KCBS Tech Report:

There were also a lot of all-in-one PCs including two with touch screens. This is all about Windows 8, which is designed for tablets and touch screens as well as traditional PCs.

It's an interesting marketing shift and you know it's funny, I've actually heard stories of children that walk up to TV screens because they're used to the iPad and think that a TV will have touch screen capabilities.
