American Canyon Girl Killed After Being Bucked Off Horse

AMERICAN CANYON (CBS SF) - An American Canyon girl died Monday while horseback riding outside city limits in unincorporated Napa County, a sheriff's captain said.

Jennifer Lorena Ramirez, 7, was riding with family members in the 2100 block of American Canyon Road when the horse reared up, Napa County sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said.

Both Ramirez and the 5-year-old horse fell to the ground, and the horse landed on top of the girl.

The American Canyon Fire Protection District responded to the incident around 3:55 p.m., Stuart said. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:08 p.m., Stuart said.

Stuart said the girl's father and brother were riding with her when the accident happened.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
