Fremont Hospital Patient Yanks Out IV Tube, Allegedly Tries To Steal Truck

FREMONT (CBS SF) - A patient at a Fremont hospital was arrested this week after attempting to leave the hospital in a contractor's truck, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of a patient who walked out of Washington Hospital at 2000 Mowry Ave., jumped into a truck and started it, police said.

A witness confronted the man and was able to get him out of the vehicle.

An officer then arrived and spoke with the man, a 35-year-old, who said he had "had enough treatment" at the hospital so removed his own IV and walked out, according to police.

Police said he had attempted to steal the truck to get to his home in Hayward.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle.
